What Is a Self-Clinching Blind Press Nut?
A self-clinching blind press nut is a closed-end, press-fit fastener designed to provide strong, reusable internal threads in thin sheet metal.
Unlike an open-ended self-clinching nut, the blind design closes the bottom of the threaded hole. This limits mating screw penetration and helps prevent long screws, loose hardware, dust, and other foreign matter from reaching sensitive components inside the assembly.
Also known as a blind self-clinching nut, closed-end clinch nut, blind press nut, or sealed-thread press nut, it installs permanently into a properly sized mounting hole using a controlled squeezing force.
The closed-end design makes blind press nuts especially useful in electronic enclosures, control panels, and other assemblies where internal clearance and component protection are important.
Available Thread Sizes
TSC8 self-clinching blind press nuts are available in standard inch and metric thread sizes.

Mounting hole size, thread depth, body dimensions, and minimum sheet thickness vary by thread size and part number. Refer to the specification charts above for exact measurements.
Materials & Finishes
TSC8 self-clinching blind press nuts are available in zinc-plated steel and stainless steel.
Zinc-plated steel provides strength, corrosion protection, and economical performance for general sheet metal and industrial applications. Stainless steel is available for applications requiring greater corrosion resistance or material compatibility.
Other materials, finishes, thread sizes, and dimensional specifications may be available for custom production requirements.
Self-Clinching Blind Press Nut Installation
Self-clinching blind press nuts are installed into a properly sized mounting hole using a press that applies a controlled, parallel squeezing force.
Insert the nut into the mounting hole and support it with the correct installation anvil. Keep the punch and anvil surfaces parallel, then apply enough force to fully embed the clinching features and seat the nut securely in the sheet.
For proper installation:
- Use the recommended mounting hole size.
- Confirm the minimum sheet thickness.
- Use the correct punch and anvil.
- Keep the installation surfaces parallel.
- Apply squeezing force rather than impact force.
- Confirm that the sheet material is softer than the fastener.
No chamfering, countersinking, or special hole preparation is normally required. Blind press nuts should not be installed using a hammer.
Typical Applications
Self-clinching blind press nuts are suitable for assemblies that require closed-end threads, controlled screw penetration, and protection for internal components.
Typical applications include:
- Electronic equipment and enclosures
- Electrical cabinets
- Control panels
- Displays and monitors
- Telecommunications equipment
- Appliances
- Automotive electronic assemblies
- Industrial machinery and components
